Setting up email on an iPhone or iPad normally means typing server names, ports and security settings by hand. Thexyz Webmail can skip all of that: it generates an iOS configuration profile that sets your account up in Apple's built-in Mail app for you.
You download it once, install it, and your mailbox appears in Mail alongside your other accounts.
Before you start
- Do this on the iPhone or iPad itself, not on your computer. The profile has to be downloaded on the device it will configure.
- Use Safari. Other browsers on iOS cannot hand configuration profiles to the Settings app.
- Have your mailbox password ready. If you use two factor authentication, see the section below first.
Download the profile
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Safari and sign in to mail.thexyz.com.
- Open your settings and choose My account.
- Select E-mail Accounts & Aliases in the sidebar.
- Tap Download iOS Profile.
- iOS will confirm that a profile has been downloaded. Tap Allow if you are asked.

Install the profile
- Open the Settings app on your device.
- Tap Profile Downloaded near the top of the screen. If you do not see it, go to General → VPN & Device Management and select the Thexyz profile there.
- Tap Install in the top right, then enter your device passcode.
- Tap Install again to confirm.
- When prompted, enter the password for your Thexyz mailbox.
- Tap Done.
Open the Mail app and your Thexyz mailbox will be there, syncing.
If you use two factor authentication
When two factor authentication is switched on, your normal password will not work in the Mail app, because the app has no way to prompt you for a verification code. Instead, create an app password: in the same settings sidebar, choose Application Passwords, generate one for your iPhone or iPad, and enter that when the profile asks for your password.
App passwords can be revoked individually, so if you lose the device you can cut off its access without changing your main password.
Troubleshooting
Nothing happened when I tapped the button.
You are probably not using Safari. Chrome, Firefox and in-app browsers on iOS cannot install configuration profiles. Open mail.thexyz.com in Safari and try again.
iOS says the profile is "Unverified".
This refers to whether the profile file itself carries a code signature, not to the security of your mail connection, which is encrypted either way. It is safe to continue.
It asks for a password and rejects the right one.
Two factor authentication is almost certainly enabled on the account. Use an app password as described above.
I already added this account manually.
Remove the old account first, under Settings → Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts, otherwise you will see every message twice.
Frequently asked questions
How do I remove it later?
Go to Settings → General → VPN & Device Management, select the Thexyz profile and tap Remove Profile. This removes the account it created from your device. Nothing is deleted from the server, and you can reinstall the profile at any time.
Can I use this on more than one device?
Yes. Repeat the steps on each iPhone or iPad. If you use app passwords, generate a separate one for each device so they can be revoked independently.
What about Android?
Configuration profiles are an Apple feature. On Android, add the account manually using our server settings, or just use webmail in your browser at mail.thexyz.com.
Do I still need webmail after this?
Not for everyday mail, though some features live in webmail only, including Send Later, folder cleanup rules and incoming rules.
